What is Paint Protection Film?
The most effective way to protect your vehicle’s paint from physical damage.
Paint protection film (PPF) is a transparent, thermoplastic urethane film applied to the painted surfaces of your vehicle. Originally developed by the U.S. military to protect helicopter rotor blades from debris damage, PPF technology has been refined over decades into a virtually invisible shield that absorbs impacts from rock chips, road debris, bug splatter, bird droppings, and minor abrasions before they can reach your factory paint.
Modern 3M Scotchgard Pro Series PPF is self-healing — minor scratches and swirl marks in the film disappear on their own when exposed to heat (sunlight, warm water, or a heat gun). The film is optically clear, won’t yellow over time, and is backed by 3M’s 10-year manufacturer warranty against defects, yellowing, bubbling, cracking, and peeling.
As a 3M Certified Pro Shop, we use genuine 3M film, 3M-approved installation techniques, and computer-precision cut patterns for every vehicle. This certification matters: the 10-year 3M warranty is only valid when the film is installed by a certified professional. Generic installers using aftermarket film cannot offer the same warranty protection.

What PPF Protects Against
Your vehicle’s paint faces constant assault from road hazards. PPF creates an invisible barrier between your paint and everything the road throws at it.
Rock Chips
Highway gravel and loose stones that pit and chip your hood, bumper, and fenders.
UV Damage
UV radiation that fades and oxidizes paint over time, especially on dark-coloured vehicles.
Road Salt & Chemicals
Calgary’s winter road treatments that etch and stain unprotected paint surfaces.
Bug Splatter & Sap
Acidic insect remains and tree sap that eat through clear coat if left untreated.
Bird Droppings
Highly acidic bird waste that permanently etches clear coat within hours of contact.
Minor Scratches
Car wash brushes, door dings, key scratches, and other surface abrasions.
Why 3M Scotchgard Pro Series?
Not all paint protection films are created equal. We exclusively use 3M Scotchgard Pro Series PPF because it delivers the best combination of optical clarity, durability, self-healing performance, and warranty backing of any film on the market.
Self-Healing Technology
3M Scotchgard Pro Series features an advanced elastomeric polymer top layer that self-heals when exposed to heat. Light scratches, swirl marks, and minor abrasions that occur during daily driving literally disappear when the film is warmed by sunlight or warm water. This keeps the film looking freshly installed for years, not just months.
Optical Clarity
3M’s proprietary film construction achieves industry-leading optical clarity — the film is virtually invisible once installed. There’s no orange peel texture, no haze, and no visible film edges when properly installed by a certified technician. Your vehicle looks exactly like it did from the factory, just protected.
10-Year Manufacturer Warranty
3M stands behind every installation with a comprehensive 10-year warranty that covers yellowing, bubbling, cracking, peeling, and staining. This isn’t a shop warranty or a third-party guarantee — it’s backed directly by 3M, one of the largest materials science companies in the world. The warranty is only valid when installed by a 3M Certified Pro Shop like us.
Certified Installation Matters
3M Certified Pro Shops undergo training, evaluation, and regular auditing by 3M to ensure installation standards are maintained. We use genuine 3M materials, 3M-approved installation techniques, and DAP (Design Accuracy Program) computer-cut patterns for every vehicle. Computer-cut patterns ensure precise, repeatable fitment — no freehand cutting on your vehicle’s paint, which means no accidental blade marks in your clear coat.

Our Installation Process
Consultation & Quote
We discuss your protection goals, assess your vehicle, and recommend the right package. You’ll get an exact quote based on your vehicle’s make, model, and the coverage level you choose.
Surface Preparation
Your vehicle is thoroughly washed and clay-barred to remove all surface contaminants. Any existing chips or scratches in the application area are addressed. The surface must be perfectly clean for the film to bond properly and look flawless.
Precision Cutting
Using 3M’s DAP (Design Accuracy Program) software, we cut each panel from the exact digital template for your specific vehicle. Computer-cut patterns ensure perfect fitment with no freehand cutting on your vehicle’s paint.
Professional Application
Each panel is carefully applied using a slip solution, then squeegeed to remove all air and moisture. Edges are wrapped and tucked behind panels where possible for a seamless, invisible finish. Complex curves and contours are heat-formed for perfect conformity.
Inspection & Cure
Every edge, seam, and surface is inspected under bright lighting. The vehicle cures for 24-48 hours before delivery. We walk you through proper care instructions and register your 3M warranty.
Understanding PPF Coverage Levels
Choosing the right level of PPF coverage depends on how you use your vehicle, where you drive, and how long you plan to keep it. Here’s a practical guide to help you decide.
Partial Front End (Bronze & Silver)
Partial front end packages protect the areas most vulnerable to highway debris: the leading edge of the hood, front bumper, fenders, and mirrors. These packages are ideal for daily commuters who primarily drive city roads with occasional highway use. The Bronze package covers the critical impact zone (the first 24 inches of the hood and the bumper), while the Silver extends coverage further up the hood and adds headlight protection.
Full Front End (Gold, Radium & Uranium)
Full front end packages cover the entire hood, full fenders, complete bumper, headlights, fog lights, and mirrors. Gold adds door edge guards for parking lot protection. Radium wraps all edges for a completely seamless look. Uranium adds rocker panel and A-pillar coverage for maximum protection. These packages are recommended for highway commuters (Deerfoot Trail, Highway 2, Stoney Trail), trucks and SUVs that see gravel roads, and anyone who plans to keep their vehicle for 5+ years.
Custom Coverage
Beyond our standard packages, we offer custom PPF coverage for any panel on your vehicle. Common add-ons include rocker panels, rear bumper top (loading area), door cups, B-pillars, and rear wheel arches. If you drive frequently on gravel roads to Kananaskis, Bragg Creek, or other mountain destinations, additional rock chip protection on lower body panels is a smart investment.
PPF FAQ
How long does paint protection film last?
3M Scotchgard Pro Series PPF is warranted for 10 years against yellowing, bubbling, cracking, and peeling. In practice, properly maintained film lasts well beyond the warranty period. The film’s self-healing top coat keeps it looking fresh for years — unlike older-generation PPF that turned yellow after 3-4 years.
Can you see the film on the car?
When professionally installed, 3M Scotchgard Pro Series is virtually invisible. The film has industry-leading optical clarity with no orange peel texture or haze. Most people cannot tell the difference between a protected panel and an unprotected one, even when standing right next to the vehicle.
Does PPF damage paint when removed?
No. 3M Scotchgard Pro Series uses a proprietary adhesive designed for clean removal. When properly removed by a professional, the film lifts off cleanly with no adhesive residue and no damage to the factory paint underneath. In fact, the paint under the film is typically in better condition than unprotected areas because it’s been shielded from UV exposure and environmental damage.
How do I care for PPF?
PPF-covered vehicles can be washed normally — hand wash, touchless automatic wash, or pressure washer are all fine. Avoid brush-style automatic washes, as they can scratch the film surface (though the self-healing property will recover minor scratches). You can wax or ceramic-coat over PPF for additional gloss and hydrophobic properties. Avoid using abrasive compounds or polishes directly on the film.
Can PPF be applied over existing chips or scratches?
PPF is transparent, so any existing paint damage under the film will still be visible. For the best result, we recommend touching up chips and polishing out scratches before installation. During our prep process, we’ll assess your paint condition and advise whether any touch-up work is needed before applying the film.
What’s the difference between PPF and ceramic coating?
Paint protection film is a physical barrier — a thick urethane film that absorbs impacts and prevents chips and scratches from reaching the paint. Ceramic coating is a chemical bond — a thin layer that provides hydrophobic (water-repelling) properties and UV protection, but offers zero impact protection. For maximum protection, many customers combine both: PPF on high-impact areas with ceramic coating over the entire vehicle for easy cleaning and UV defense.
How long does installation take?
Installation time depends on the package. A Bronze partial front end takes approximately 3-4 hours. Silver and Gold packages take 4-6 hours. Full front end packages (Radium, Uranium) take 6-8 hours. We typically ask you to drop off your vehicle in the morning for same-day or next-day pickup depending on the package.
